Members of LITEK™ at „Laser Worlds of Photonics India 2017“

„Laser World of Photonics India 2017“ took place in New Delhi, India, on 14th-16th of September, 2017. Exhibition organized for the sixth time has attracted representatives of laser industry from around the world. Over 160 exhibitors from 16 countries presented their products, services and technologies. The exhibition was visited by more than 6,400 visitors, working in photonics sector and/or interested in it.

Members of Laser & Engineering Technologies Cluster LITEK™ – JSC “Ekspla” and “EKSMA Optics” – have participated in “Laser World of Photonics India” every year and this September was no exception. One of the largest laser manufacturers in Lithuania “Ekspla” introduced tunable wavelength picosecond and femtosecond lasers, industrial ultrasonic lasers, terahertz spectroscopy systems and high energy laser systems, while EKSMA Optics presented its optical and crystal components and electro-optical modulators. “India is a fast growing market for photonic and laser applications. Every year, exports to India are growing and we are also tracking more and more interest in our products from various companies and public organizations in India” – said Daugirdas Kuzma, the Head of Marketing and Business Development of “EKSMA Optics”.

Although lasers from “Ekspla“ have been sold to India for more than 10 years, it was not so easy to access this market. The specificity of such countries determines the need for a representative, therefore from the very beginning “Ekspla”, “EKSMA Optics” and JSC “ELAS” are collaborating with “Anatech Instruments”. Ekspla succeeded to dispatch around 50 different lasers throughout this period. Since the very beginning, most lasers were used for R&D applications. Laurynas Ūkanis, marketing project manager at “Ekspla”, was glad that “during the entire period of work, “Ekspla” has earned the trust of such serious scientific institutions as the “Bhabha Atomic Research Center”. In response to global trends, interest in high-energy systems has grown recently”.

Lithuanian laser companies are exporting over 90 % of their production overseas, including India. The export of laser machines and optical parts constitutes around 8 % of Lithuania’s total exports to India.

Indian scientists were particularly active in photonics from the 20th century. At the beginning, when C.V.Raman and S.N.Bose began to study molecular spectroscopy and photon statistics, which led to interest in optics throughout the world. At present, a wide range of research teams from institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the Indian Institute of Science, etc., are actively involved in both fundamental and experimental photonics research. Laser technologies are known as Key Enabling Technologies that affect various industries, and therefore the organizers of the „Laser World of Photonics India 2017“ were pleased that during exhibition it was shown that photonics have been well adapted and applied to various sectors.
