The workshops on ideas for the digitization of Lithuanian industrial companies in LITEK™

For Europe to remain competitive internationally, its companies must be able to benefit from digital opportunities. This will lead to higher value products and smarter processes. The digital revolution brings opportunities for big and small companies, but many of them still find it difficult to know in which technologies to invest and how to secure financing for their digital transformation. Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are particularly slow in integrating digital technologies: only one out of five SMEs in the EU are highly digitised, yet they represent over 90% of all businesses in Europe. There are also strong differences in the level of digitalisation across the EU, depending on the sector and region. To bridge the current divide, the EU proposed Digital Innovation Hubs as a key priority in the Digitising European Industry Initiative, adopted in April 2016.Digital innovation hubs (DIH) can help ensure that every company, small or large, high-tech or not, can grasp the digital opportunities. With technical universities or research organisations at the core, DIHs act as one-stop-shops where companies —especially SMEs, startups and mid-caps— can get access to technology-testing, financing advice, market intelligence and networking opportunities.

The representatives of the LaserLT Digital Innovation Hub (LaserLT DIH), whose vision is to become the strongest one-stop-shop on lasers, photonics and advanced manufacturing in Northern-East part of Europe, and the representatives of Digital Innovation Hub Enhanced-Learning Programme (DIHELP), that aims to develop a coherent, coordinated and sustainable approach to support European industries in all EU Member States at regional level using the concept of Digital innovation Hubs (DIH) concept, during the workshops and seminar organized in LITEK™ conference room on 16th-18th of July, 2019, exchanged ideas with the participating companies and government representatives on the main challenges of digitalisation of Lithuanian industry and how they can be effectively addressed and how LaserLT Digital Innovation Hub can help Lithuanian companies in their digital transformation. LaserLT DIH plans to develop its activities in three main areas: expertise in laser technology, consulting and access to business finance, and relationships with industry. The main purpose of this three-day event is to bring together companies that want to learn more about digital solutions and ways to improve their operations, and organizations that work with digitization, as well as anyone interested in digital transformation and new technologies in Lithuanian regions.

The participants of the seminar, visiting Department of Laser Technologies of the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, got acquainted with the photonics, robotics and additive manufacturing (3D printing), as well as developing innovative technologies, successfully implemented in industrial companies.
