Lithuania celebrates the International Day of Light
The International Day of Light is an annual UNESCO celebration. It invites to appreciate the role of light played in science, culture and art, education and sustainable development, medicine, communications, energy and other fields. This celebration is being mention on the 16th of May. The date was chosen in honor of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. In order to celebrate International Day of Light, Lithuanian Laser Association and all laser community invites to participate in a photography contest.
Light is one of the main factors that have a decisive influence on the existence of life on Earth. Its significance for humanity is invaluable. Light has helped to develop a scientific understanding of the world. Over time it has been learned to control it and to use its advantages not only for scientific purposes but also for industry, daily-life or even entertainment.
In any case, scientists have studied properties of light the most and Lithuania is not an exception. Lithuanian laser industry has made Lithuania famous worldwide. In order to remind the society about the importance and possibilities of light and also its beauty, this year Lithuanian Laser Association invites to participate in the photo contest “Light Phenomena”. The photos that reveal the theme of “Light Phenomena” the most will be awarded with prizes.
