LITEK™ member LITILIT is building one of the world’s largest femtosecond laser factories in Vilnius

UAB LITILIT, a member of the Laser and engineering technology cluster LITEK™, is entering a significant expansion phase – it is launching a project for a new serial-production and automated femtosecond laser factory in Vilnius. The company will invest approximately €6 million in modern production infrastructure, with manufacturing scheduled to commence next year.

The new factory will be located in premises on Plungės Street in the capital. The total production floor area will amount to around 4,000 square metres. It will house a modern CNC metalworking shop, as well as robotic laser assembly and testing lines. The company aims to create a highly automated production system that will enable it to efficiently scale output and maintain the highest quality standards.

Over the next few years, the company plans to ramp up its annual production capacity to 3,000 femtosecond lasers. This capacity will make the new facility one of the largest manufacturing sites of its kind in the world.According to LITILIT head Nikolajus Gavrilinas, femtosecond lasers are becoming an increasingly important component of advanced technologies across a wide range of fields – from semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence to precision medicine and advanced industry.

LITILIT growth is built on a unique technological platform developed using an internationally patented method for generating ultrashort pulses. This solution was originally discovered in 2014 by one of the company’s founders, Kęstutis Regelskis, together with researchers from the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC). This patented technology underpins the femtosecond lasers developed by the company and enables more efficient, easily automated solutions that are well-suited to serial production.

Unlike many traditional femtosecond laser systems, which were developed primarily for research purposes, LITILIT technology is designed specifically to enable efficient serial manufacturing, automated assembly and testing processes, and consistent quality assurance. All of this creates the conditions for competitive mass production.

Femtosecond lasers are characterised by extremely short pulses and high peak optical power, allowing them to precisely process materials without damaging surrounding areas. This technology is already used for cutting phone glass, marking medical instruments, eye surgery, stent manufacturing, and numerous other high-value-added fields.

UAB LITILIT investment represents a significant step in strengthening the international competitiveness of Lithuania’s photonics sector, while also contributing to the growth of the country’s innovation ecosystem and the expansion of high-tech exports.
