Important contribution to the European defense industry

In today’s geopolitical situation, when security challenges are becoming increasingly complex, high technologies play a decisive role. Lithuania, being one of the leaders in the development of advanced laser technologies, contributes to strengthening European security and invests in the defense industry and technologies, seeking to ensure its own and its allies’ security.

Laser optics manufacturer UAB “Altechna“, a member of the Laser and Engineering Technologies Cluster LITEK™, specializing in the development and production of laser optics components, whose products are implemented in various fields, including industry, medicine, scientific research, is actively participating in an international project dedicated to the defense industry. The company was selected to participate in the TALOS-TWO project – a 25 million EUR initiative funded by the European Defense Fund, the task of which is to create the first fully independent 100 kW class laser directed energy weapons (DEW) in Europe by 2030. UAB Altechna will provide the basic optics knowledge required for the development of high-energy laser systems. 21 companies from 8 different countries have united for the common goal of TALOS-TWO. These are major European defense contractors, such as CILAS – laser and optics experts from France, one of the main Italian industrial companies Leonardo, and the German company Rheinmetall, a leading supplier of international systems to the defense industry. Seven research organizations and six companies are also joining this initiative. “By developing independent laser directed energy weapons DEW, we are applying the most advanced military technologies and thus strengthening the ability of the whole of Europe to deter external threats as a united force,” says Antanas Laurutis, General Director of UAB Altechna, thereby confirming the importance of the project.

UAB Altechna is an example of how Lithuanian companies can successfully compete in the international market and contribute to strengthening European security. The innovations developed by the company and the high quality of laser optics ensure that Lithuanian lasers will continue to play an important role in the defense industry.
